13th March 2018

On Friday, March 23, at 4pm, Fabrizio Boriero will be giving a talk about "What is the Impact of Autonomous Robots in our Society?”, in Room 2, Tecnopolo’s -1 floor.

Abstract

Thanks to recent investments and to public attention to the so-called “Industrial revolution 4.0”, the modern society has a big expectation from robotics, which is seen as an investment to change everybody’s lifestyle. The most sensitive topic in this area is the addition of autonomy to robots with the aim to transfer the execution of the selected tasks from humans to machines. This technological evolution will
have a substantial impact on the way we produce goods and services, but there are also, many open questions involving other aspects of human life such as philosophy, anthropology, ethics, sociology, law, etc.

In this presentation will be briefly presented some results regarding surgical robotics, industrial robotics and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) with the aim of opening a discussion on the impact of these technologies on our society.

Bio

Fabrizio Boriero, received the Laurea degree in “Information Technology” and the MSc in “Intelligent and Multimedia Systems” at the University of Verona (Italy). Since 2007 he is a member of the “Altair robotics lab” guided by prof. Paolo Fiorini where he collaborated in some European projects as software engineer for surgical robotic architectures. In 2014 he started his Ph.D. working on kynodynamic motion planning for underactuated robots, in particular quadrotors.
