Spinoff of M-ITI selected for funding from Horizon 2020 SME Instrument

The EnergySpectrum project, submitted by a spinoff of M-ITI was selected for funding from the SMEs Instrument support in Horizon 2020. The € 50,000 will be used to develop a business plan for the EnergySpectrum system, which allows the disaggregation of household energy consumption, providing families access to relevant and intuitive information about their energy consumption.

Researchers Mary Barreto, Lucas Pereira, Filipe Quintal, and Augusto Esteves, are the co-founders of this new technology startup that received support from the M-ITI Business Ignition Lab to prepared the bid.

The EnergySpectrum resulted from a research project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under the Carnegie Mellon Portugal program that allowed testing of cost-effective solutions for disaggregation of electrical signals.

M-ITI was selected by the European Commission to set up and lead European Research Area Chair, the ERAChair LeapFROG project, where the Business Ignition Lab has its origin.

Small and Medium-sized Enterprises that are EU-based or established in a country associated to Horizon 2020 can now get EU funding and support for innovation projects that will help them grow and expand their activities into other countries – in Europe and beyond. Horizon 2020 funds high-potential innovation through a dedicated SME instrument, which offers seamless business innovation support under the section Societal Challenges and the specific part Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies (LEITs).
